4.US and Imperialism.

The US was definitely imperialistic and today it has imperial under tones but we could not get away with it today so it cannot be imperialistic anymore. But in the past it was.

Pros

• The open door policy, which would make imperial nations share China and not have one entirely in control. This was good because nobody controlled China, they just had a presence there.
• The Gunboat Diplomacy forced Japan to open it's ports to the US for trade. At first it wasn't good, but after a while it would be good because it modernized Japan.
• Spanish-American war led to the Treaty of Paris gaining the US Cuba, Guam, Puerto Rico and the Philippines.

Cons

• Falsifying the explosion of the Maine to use force to gain Cuba.
• Countries that disagreed with US control like the Philippines causing more war.
• Using bad reasons to take over small countries. Reasons like religious missionaries.
